Tony West — artist, maker, Scotsman
Tony West is a contemporary Scottish fine artist whose work is inseparable from the landscape, character and quiet resilience of the land he calls home. Working across Linocut printmaking, Silverpoint drawing and handmade Jewellery, Tony brings a rare breadth of discipline to work that is always, at its core, deeply personal and rigorously made.
Born and raised with the Highlands in his blood, Tony's practice has been shaped by decades of observation — of light on water, the silhouette of Highland cattle against a winter sky, the weight of a ruined castle wall. His linocuts translate that visual acuity into bold, irreversible marks: the reduction process strips away everything superfluous, leaving only what the image demands.
"Every cut is a commitment. You can't un-carve a line. That's what makes it honest."
— Tony WestIn Silverpoint, Tony works in one of the oldest and most unforgiving drawing media known to Western art. Using a silver-tipped stylus on painstakingly prepared grounds, the technique produces a line of extraordinary delicacy — one that cannot be erased, only built upon. Over time the silver oxidises to a warm sepia tone, lending finished works a luminous patina that connects them to the Renaissance masters who first perfected the method.
Tony's handmade jewellery draws on Celtic heritage, the geometry of Scottish stonework and the textures of the natural world. Each piece is a wearable artwork — small enough to hold in the palm, carrying the full weight of intention. He accepts commissions across all disciplines and ships throughout the UK and internationally.
Relief prints carved from linoleum, celebrating Scottish wildlife, landscape and character with bold graphic clarity. Originals, limited editions and bespoke commissions available.
